bio:

Nicola Morton is an Asian/Australian artist who loves playing with machines and the paranormal. She has a B.Music (Technology) from Qld Conservatorium of Music and a Master of Fine Arts from Sydney College of Art. Her documentative processes embrace spontaneity and off-kilter moments inspired by speculative questions on the existence of the paranormal. She was shortlisted by the 17th VideoBrasil Exhibition for her psychic video project, ‘Remote Viewing Experiment #1 ’and since has invited the takeover of social media by species of grasses in ‘Romantic Grass of the Week’ plus in her fortnightly #moonpsychics e-mailer she quirkily tracks the movement of the planets. She finds states of peace in abstract, improvised music and and gets her day-to-day good feels from working with the New Age Noise program for electronic music production, in Parramatta.

statement:

Nicola Morton’s sound art pursues the abstraction of tones beyond melodic and harmonic value in order to be present ‘within the machine.’ It brings the listener into an intimacy within electronics and conjures interrupted communications from space.
