Visiting artists Zio Ledeux and Chi Aydemir (plus all the rest of us) got a special treat during their residencies at Kandos, being taught the art of spinning wool by the local spinners of Kandos. As part of Georgie Pollard's work, which will involve the spinners in a performance and in the creation of a memorial to the cement works, the ladies gave a workshop that included a lecture about the significance of spinning in Ancient Greek culture presented in costume by local historian, spinner, poet, and all round wunderkinde, Leanne Wicks. The looks of wonder and amazement on the faces of the artists says enough about the value that everyone took from this event.
