Madeleine Preston bought all the good stuff from the Kandos Vinnies!

! arrived for a very short stay at Kandos in the early afternoon. It was hot, very hot so driven indoors by my fear of the sun I went to the Kandos Bicentennial Museum. The museum was built in Spanish mission style and is straight out of Hitchcock's Vertigo. P1070701 My guide at the museum, Margaret, but I'm called Peg was keen to direct my tour. Peg pointed out the scale model of a house that can be found on Donoghue street called Wyola. The model is decorated with shells although sadly the house isn't. My work for Cementa leans heavily on maquettes and models so Wyola and the other models in the museum were a drawcard. The museum is far from earnest and full of the unexpected but every time i try to describe anything in Kandos I feel as if i am writing a travelogue or an entry for an interiors blog - venetians and rose petal carpet anyone? P1070817Kandos is not just the museum indoors with monuments to its industrial past and connection to cement everywhere in the surrounding streets. Not least the house on Dabee Road with its incredible sculpture garden. Apart from the sights the best part of Kandos was the trip to the Ganguddy and the excursion to the op shop. The op shop had a pre-christmas 50% off sale on all items so my $4 investment in op art and ephemera was reduced to $2. Word of advice get to Cementa early. I have a feeling 40+ artists will think the price in Kandos is a little too alright.
