From the description i had of kandos my first thought was that it would be a very grey macho place due to its working nature as a cement town so my initial idea was to do one work (a collage ) in various shades of grey, in relation to the cement. But as soon as i arrived i was incredibly inspired by my surroundings, from the vast expanses of countryside to the silhouettes of the cement factory to the hills and the buildings of the town itself , so i went from having just one idea to having several and then deciding which ones worked the best. as i wondered around town taking photos i met some local artists who told me more about the town and the history of some of the buildings and their various uses over the years. i loved the forms of the buildings and their silhouettes and i have used that in my initial work (collage) for the festival. my second work is photographic and i decided to involve more of the town itself by 'posing' as andy warhol , playing with kandos as andy , and i incorporated several of the local kandos residents and residents in my own area doing everyday things as 'andy'. i am very proud to be a part of this festival and i look forward to the experience very much. many thanks to georgie, alex and anne and also a big thankyou to cigdem aydemir for her help and contributions to my projects. see you all there!
