Debbie Taylor-Worley & Nikki Taylor-Worley
Debbie Taylor-Worley is a Gamilaraay artist, educator and curator. Her practice includes working with clay, earth and textiles, mostly created on Country, responding to place and story. A graduate of Griffith University’s Bachelor of Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art, and lecturer within the degree, she was conferred a Doctor of Visual Art in 2023. Nikki Taylor-Worley is a Gamilaraayliving on Kuku Yulanji country synthesising observations of this wild and wacky world through rhythm and prose in a dream to inspire balance. A creative dance towards human unity, rooted in honesty.
While on residency in Kandos, we wondered about the stories held by items in the museum. If only they could speak! For Cementa26, we invite people to hold an item and imagine what stories it could tell. So get comfortable and creative; choose an item and let your imagination run wild. Write a story, a poem or draw. Be inspired – truth is not a requirement. We will offer pens, paper, drawing materials and assistance or encouragement if required. At the festival’s conclusion, the stories, sketches and poems will be stitched onto a handmade book. Non-threatening and inclusive, the project creates an outlet for imagination, intuition and creativity.
