Frewen Awen
Frewen Awen is the result of the interplay between Penny Simons’ earthly botanical sculptures and instinctive pattern making and Hobart Hughes’ surreal audio-visuals performances and sculptures. Their work is embodied through a synthesis of pattern, form, concept and dream. They create places where the fundamentals of our perceptions, collective unconscious and ancestry well up and take form. Optical, performative and immersive, their installations delight and question our senses in equal measure.
Hidden Kandos is a multi-pronged installation portal into the observed heart and spirit of Kandos: a bespoke nest for the seen, unseen, overlooked and abandoned. An installation that re-frames the huge endeavours and the multitude of small miracles hiding in plain sight – found under the soil, in the mists, the sunrise, and the interplay of shadows. As if the buildings and structures of the town were built by plants, insects, birds and mammals; the light and time falling on the habitats of people, fauna and flora. Hidden Kandos expresses echoes of the past and the persistent, enduring presence of nature that offers us the possibility of healing.
