Hoang Tran Nguyen
Hoang is a founding member of the language advocacy group ViệtSpeak, based in Naarm Melbourne’s western suburbs. His PhD examined the racial politics of education and art in the transition from state multiculturalism into neoliberalism, and developed models for community-engaged artistic practice in the settler colonial state.
Kandos Karaoke Night invites locals and visitors to sing, listen and reflect on the songs that resonate with their working life and relationship to the region surrounding the festival. The night will feature a special, locally penned song, My Name Is Kandos, as well as other popular and less-popular songs about work.
Kandos Karaoke Night will be soundtracked in parts by local music legends Bushrock Band, as well as featuring a special appearance by the Wollemi Singers, in tandem with Kim Williams and Lucas Ihlein’s Pootopia! Project.
