Merindah Funnell
Merindah’s practice centres on storytelling, education, and cultural identity. Through painting, she shares her heritage using bold colour, dynamic linework, and a strong visual language. Her work spans street art murals, fine art, and illustration, each grounded in connection to Country and community. By bringing together cultural knowledge and creative practice, Merindah creates work that is both visually striking and educational. Her practice celebrates First Nations culture, invites conversation, and creates space for learning, reflection, and connection.
Women by the river is a textile installation created as a love letter to Country and an acknowledgment of Merindah Funnell’s Wiradjuri ancestors – the hardships they endured, and the safety they found by the river. The work invites viewers into a space of connection, where water’s rhythms, reflected light, and moving leaves evoke the feeling of being held by Country. Using fabrics gathered in Kandos, Merindah works with bright, bold colours and shapes that reflect her emotional experience of Country. The installation embodies safety, nurture, joy, and deep relationship with place. Ideal for small groups and children.
