Ellie Hannon & Peter Parslow
Multidisciplinary artists Ellie Hannon and Peter Parslow are an artist couple who live and work in Muloobinba/Newcastle on the unceded lands of the Awabakal and Worimi people. Working collaboratively across installation and community‑based projects, they are best known for co‑founding, alongside others, the Art‑Raft collective for the Newcastle People’s Blockade. Combined, their practice is grounded in challenging and transforming how we understand and engage with our environments and communities. Central to their work is building playful structures that envision more positive future narratives, with a commitment to climate justice, community engagement that supports self‑determination, and the collaborative regeneration of place.
Push/Pull explores the forces at play along the post-industrial railway line of Kandos, reimagining the corridor as a shared Commons. A human-powered rail cart becomes a meeting place, living architecture and reciprocal system; carrying plants, seeds, shade and stories. Responding to local histories of labour and love of gardening, the project considers regeneration as an ongoing practice of care, where small acts of movement, exchange and tending over time accumulate to form new ways of relating with land and community. How can post-industrial infrastructure become a Commons? Together we will walk, play, notice and tend alongside the Kandos rail corridor.
