The development of this practice is situated within the cultural niche of the repair café. Previously working with The Bower to set up a repair hub, we bring very practical skills to this gentle work. Through this, we have developed a methodology for repairing or decomposing just about anything.
The Rest and Repair Space is a social space oriented around ideas of “harvest” and “decomposition” as they relate to repair. The facilitators of this space ask, “How do we collectively come around practices of repair through harvest and decomposition? How can these practices be relational?” Visitors are invited to bring something to the space that they would like repaired through these means.
The Rest and Repair Space asks us to orient ourselves to the tender task of taking apart our treasured objects. To show tenderness and rest as we stay with the trouble of repair. Listening for the stories of extraction that vibrate within the plastic polycarbons of a toy, or the begging futurity of a shirt as it is unthreaded.
