Anya Rosen grew up in Los Angeles, CA and graduated with a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. She has since worked on farms across the United States and completed residencies in remote areas of Iceland and Colombia documenting rural communities and contemporary agriculture through painting, photography, and sculpture.
My artwork is an expression of discomfort and fascination with the rapidly growing gap between humanity and nature. With a focus on the contemporary archaeology of garbage, I explore the battle between these two forces by investigating the human consumption and abandonment of man-made objects and spaces. As a sculptor I encourage the disintegration of fabricated materials and their entanglement with the environment, and as a painter and photographer I document the ruins.
