The Useless Assembly
The Useless Assembly have been creatively exploring our compulsion to consume the new by repurposing obsolete technology/using experimental processes to create interactive new work in both the usual and unusual places for the presentation of art. We have been working on disco concrete for the last few years using Musique Concrete techniques. For Cementa24, The Useless Assembly will comprise a group of ten artists of varying abilities who make live art/music and vision using samples and artifacts collected or borrowed from the site while in residence. The Useless Assembly at C24 are Sunita Bala, Carla Davey, Doug Snug, Duncan Wilson, Lydian Dunbar, Mat Daymond, Mike Smith, Randolf Reimann, Rebekah Webster and Zeb Schulz
Disco Concrète – Humanity wants the last dance. Join us on a creative investigation into the way sound and light transforms and transcends our memories and the way our bodies move in this post industrial world. Disco Concrete is a durational live art experience. The Useless Assembly, comprising of ten artists of varying abilities will be musically led by Randy Reimann to develop a work in nine short parts using only sound samples found in Kandos or surrounds. The Useless Assembly, working across multi art forms have playfully reinterpreted the sounds and images of Kandos using the principles of Musique Concrete and the transcendendental state of disco
