Untitled (wire no.5). @ Kandos Museum grounds
This project is the latest in a series of long-wire experiments that explore the dynamics of sound propagation through material and space. The large steel ‘ball mill’ located in the grounds of Kandos Museum will be converted into an electro-acoustic instrument – as the resonant cavity formed by this large metal structure is sonically activated by a vibrating wire tensioned across its internal length.

bio:

Greedy completed a BFA (Honours) at the University of Western Sydney in 2006. He is a current PhD candidate at Sydney College of the Arts, and has exhibited nationally in various regional and metropolitan spaces. He has over 10 years experience working as a professional art installer and technician for a variety of institutions, and is a current co-director of 55 Sydenham Road Marrickville.

statement:

Paul Greedy is an artist and researcher, working predominantly in sound, sculpture, and installation. Engaged with the physical dynamics of energy such as resonance, transduction and synthesis, his works explore themes of connectivity, transformation and flow, within systems of physical and perceptual relation.

Materials | Piano wire, magnets, wood, metal, audio amplifier, audio signal

bio:

statement:

Mandala explores the synthesis of aural and visual perception by mediating the wave properties of sound and light phenomena in a clear liquid medium. The title ‘Mandala’ references the geometric symmetry of balance and unity in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. When activated by sound, balance is pushed toward chaos.
