The Motel Sisters, Paris and Tacky Motel, are a collaborative and multi-faceted duo from Western Sydney. Their work engages with Australian society, pop culture and the contemporary art world. The characters are loosely based on celebrities, over-media-saturated socialites like as Paris Hilton. They have crashed TV shows such as Ready Steady Cook and The Catch-up, and performed at galleries including the Finnish Kiasma and Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art.
Attempting to rise to fame as art scene anti-socialites and daytime television-show-crashers, The Motel Sisters have used their profile to explore the relationship between their suburban roots and their identity as artists. Alongside guerrilla-style public performances, over the years they have used social networking sites such as MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, Chat Roulette, Instagram and YouTube to perform and exhibit their work.
The Motel Sisters visit Kandos, where they will interview locals, their cats, and lots of other Cementa_13 artists. They will document their time in Kandos via iPhone, video camera and other high-tech devices. Watch this space!
