They may have closed the factory down but it’s still producing … The Twilight Girls as Der Grrlems do their take on a ‘Welcome to … ’ billboard in a homage to movies The Cars That Ate Paris, Der Golem and cement factories everywhere.

statement:

From the beginning, The Twilight Girls used advertising, pornography and trash culture, and film and television, as source material, creating a playful response to the ridiculousness and pathos of the representation of the feminine in contemporary culture. Vulgarity and humour have long been used as mechanisms for critiquing and confusing gendered representation. The Twilight Girls were – and still are – conscious of the limits of feminist critique when the feminine operates as both the abject and the aestheticised fetish in representation. Importantly, rather than avoiding the problems of representation, they open up new territories for discourse, understanding and pleasure by working through and beyond its clichés and banalities.
