An interactive work that oscillates between objective mirror, to subjective likeness. The work consists of a mirrored aperture that refuses the passive function of reflection when triggered by the audience. Instead, it replaces the ‘portrait’ of the viewer with a likeness of Kandos. In doing so, the work seeks to elaborate the transient presence of the viewer in place and explore the wider enmeshed concepts of portraiture, place and being-in-the-world. The Australian Artists’ Grant is a NAVA initiative, made possible through the generous sponsorship of Mrs Janet Holmes à Court and the support of the Visual Arts Board, Australia Council for the Arts.
